Powering Equality: Scaling Disability Energy Support through Community Collaboration

The Challenge
3.6 million disabled people in the UK have been living in fuel poverty since 2023, with energy use often non-negotiable, powering medical equipment and maintaining warmer homes for health reasons. Yet existing support services weren't reaching those who needed them most, forcing impossible choices between heating and eating.
The Strategy
Scope partnered with UK Gas Distribution Networks and British Gas Energy Trust to scale its free Disability Energy Support (DES) service, combining crisis support with long-term resilience building.
Execution and Innovation
The marketing approach was overhauled into an inclusive, performance-led acquisition campaign co-created with disabled people, shifting from brand-led assets to authentic peer-led content developed with disabled creators, with budget continuously reallocated to the highest-performing channels.
Results
The campaign enabled over 14,000 disabled households to access life-changing energy support in 2025, 217% above projections.
