In 1927, when Park Lane was still a narrow road on the edge of Hyde Park, the new Grosvenor House hotel was built on the site of the old Grosvenor House at a staggering cost of £1 million.
At the time the Great Room at Grosvenor House was a spectacular ice rink where extravagant society galas were held. To meet the changing needs of London society, the ice was boarded over in 1934 and the area was converted to become Europe's largest ballroom, and in 2014 this is still the case with a capacity for over 2000 guests, the Grosvenor House Great Room is the London venue for the most prestigious of Award Ceremonies.
